These socks were the January pattern for the Black Sheep Hoppy Feet Sock Club and are available as a pattern through Ravelry and a kit through BlackSheep at Orenco.

The Hoarfrost socks were my sixth iteration of an idea to combine cables with lace. I made and rejected five other samples before settling on this pattern. It was not what I had originally envisioned, but I love it so much more.

Due to the nature of the cables and lace in this sock it is not a particularly stretchy sock. Knitters should take this into account when knitting this pattern.

This pattern is meant for an adventurous novice to intermediate knitter. Please read the entire pattern before beginning.

Yarn: 1 Madelinetosh Tosh Sock, 395 yards, Courbet is Green, 100% Merino Wool OR Black Trillium Merilon, 75% Superwash Merino and 25% Nylon, 425 yards, color Saltwater

Needle: US 1 (2.25 mm) Hiya Hiya Steel Double Pointed Needles (DPNs) or needles to obtain gauge

Gauge: 7.3 (7.4) stitches per inch (spi) and 9 (10) rows per inch (rpi) OR 29 (29.6) stitches & 36 (40) rows to 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette

Size: To fit a US women’s 8.5-9 shoe, approx. 8.25” circumference and 9” foot

To alter the size: Adjust your gauge to increase or decrease the circumference of the foot as needed. Please note that this pattern is not stretchy due to the cables.
