Mark your calendar! September 22 is Hobbit Day and there is a party in the shire to celebrate Bilbo and Frodo Baggins’ birthday! The lace stitch pattern was designed by Naomi Parkhurst of Gannet Designs in celebration of the event. The cowl begins with a provisional cast on and is worked in the round from the center out, in both directions, using the Hobbit Day stitch pattern.

Difficulty Level: intermediate (lace and cabling)

Size: 13” by 40” (circumference) after a soft block

Yarn: Cascade Yarns Sorata, silver, 437 yards per 100 grams, 70% baby llama/ 30% silk, approximately 90 grams, 393 yards used

Needles: US 6 / 4 mm (Use two 32-inch circular needles for Judy’s Magic Cast on.)
