Featured in all eight films, the Hogwarts Express transfers students from platform nine and three-quarters at King’s Cross Station in London to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the films, the Hogwarts Express is “played” by a steam locomotive originally called Olton Hall, which was built in 1937 for the Great Western Railway. It was rescued by the film crew from a South Wales scrapyard and completely restored for filming. Painted bright red and fitted with Hogwarts Castle nameplates, the numbers 5972 were left as a nod to the train’s original operating number.

Hop aboard the Hogwarts Express with this stranded colorwork cowl knit in the round. An extra-wide repeat worked only once across the round makes for an exciting knit, while the smoke puffs are duplicate stitched on during finishing. Topped with garter edging, this is the perfect gift knit for all ages. All aboard!
