Hokusai
In my second book, Gallery, I made the Great Wave pillow. For this pattern, I took inspiration from the painting created by Hokusai, which has the same name. This painting has always fascinated me with its colors, drawings, the story behind it, and most of all - the painter itself. So, when it comes to inspiration, I wasn’t finished by just making a yoga pillow for the second book. There was so much more inspiration to use the motifs of a wave. I created this very textured and thick pattern, which creates a blanket that is instantly the eye-catcher of the room. The pattern can be made as wide and long as you please.
General information about the pattern:
Yarn Requirements: For this pattern, I used Scheepjes Woolwise. A 100% merino-based wool comes in balls of 100 grams and is 200 meters long. You can choose any yarn for this pattern – take scraps to use up or even work with gradient types of yarns. I used ten colors to work up the pattern. For the blanket itself, you need approx. 1900-2000 meters of yarn, and for the border, you will need another 450-500 meters of yarn.
I used the following colors and amounts for the example:
Color A: 701 Pure White (2 balls needed – 400 meters)
Color B: 743 Frosty Sky (1 ball needed – 180 meters)
Color C: 745 Misty Waters (1 ball needed – 180 meters)
Color D: 748 Deep Sea (1 ball needed – 180 meters)
Color E: 709 Sandy Taupe (2 balls needed – 350 meters)
Color F: 708 Greige Tan (2 balls needed – 350 meters)
Color G: 707 Desert Beige (1 ball needed – 180 meters)
Color H: 751 Pale Azure (1 ball needed – 180 meters)
Color I: 752 Aqua Marine (1 ball needed – 180 meters)
Color J: 746 Sea Spray (1 ball needed – 180 meters)
Hook size needed: For the suggested type of yarn, you will need a 5.5mm hook size. If you choose another type of yarn, always use one size bigger than the largest size given on the label of the yarn.
As the pattern is very textured and thick, you will need to use a larger crochet hook than the one the chosen yarn describes to create a more stretchable work.
Size: The finished blanket will be 100cm/ 25 inches wide and 120cm/ 30 inches long.
However, you can easily adjust the size to your liking. You can obtain width by adding 17 stitches for any extra wave, and length by repeating the pattern as long as you like.
-As I chose to work with different colors, you crochet a set of waves, fasten off, and change to a different color. If you decide to use a solid color or a gradient type of color, you can crochet on and on by turning the work and not fastening off the yarn.

The pattern holds clear, written instructions guided by step-by-step photos. There is also a chart in the pattern, and my advice is to use all the given tools together to understand the pattern well.
-
The pattern holds very basic stitch work, so in this way, it is beginner-friendly. However, the construction and building of the pattern can be more intermediate to understand.

After purchase, you can download a PDF file in all available languages, which are English (US) and Dutch.
