Inspiration:

Fiber is always first and foremost my inspiration. When an opportunity presents itself to design a garment in fibre I already love, to enter a contest for Rowan Vogue Live Knitting show in New York City 2020, one does not hesitate. This is my creation. This pullover walked the runway in January 2020, and I am beyond ecstatic. The “woos” and the “wows” were a prize in themselves.

The name “Holme” honours the home of Rowan yarns. It’s a name of a small river flowing through West Yorkshire in England, where Rowan yarns are created. This design is reminiscent of flowing intertwining water, thus the choice of the muddy bluish colour. England is a rainy nation where the greyish skies are a common occurrence. The choice of the muddy white was purposeful to aid in the ambiance of this pullover and bring the concept together.

Gauge:

34 sts /28 rounds in 4 in/10 cm, swatch to be worked in the round in k4 (CC), p2 (MC) pattern with size 5 US (3.75mm) needles.
Gauge will be tighter at waist due to nature of cables thus allowing for natural waist shaping Take time to achieve gauge, adjust needle size as needed.

Composition: 70% Mohair 30% Silk
Yarn ball weight: 25g= 210m (228 yards) per ball

Amounts needed: 5 (5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, 9) balls each colour (yarn is held single)

Sizes provided in consecutive order, please highlight your size for ease of following. If one number is provided it applies to all sizes.

Notions:

• Size 3 US(3.25mm), and size 5 US(3.75mm) knitting needles, suggested: interchangeable needles with variety of cord lengths, as well as DPN’s in same size (if not using Magic Loop), or size needed to achieve gauge
• Removable stitch markers in different colours: 3 to denote BOR in various pieces, additional marker recommended to mark side body, 4 for sides of raglan, and 4 for cables in raglan.
• Darning needle,
• Cable needle or 1 DPN.

Skills required:

• Working stranded knitting technique from chart,
• Working simple RC (right cable) and LC (left cable) cables,
• Long tail CO,
• Knit and purl sts,
• Decreases,
• Working in the round on small circumference (DPN’s or Magic Loop),
• 3-st I-cord BO,
• 3-needle BO for underarms.

Notes about construction:

Knitted bottom up with natural waist shaping (gauge will be tighter at waist due to nature of twisting cables). Tapered sleeves are knitted bottom up, separately from the body are later attached to body then yoke is worked. Pullover features raglan shaping of yoke with decorative cables running along the decreases. Finished all around with 3-st I-cord trim for neck, bottom edge and sleeve cuffs.
