Theses socks are inspired by Iceland´s national flower, Holtasóley or Mountain Avens. It is a common plant in heathers and gravely or sandy soils and can be found almost everywhere in Iceland.
The flowers are very conspicuous in the month of June when the Icelandic national day is on the 17th.

The Holtasóley socks are knitted from the cuff down with a round toe and an afterthought heel. The leg is decorated with Mountain Avens flowers and leaves in stranded knitting, later enhanced with a few embroidery stitches.

The toe and heel are worked in the round in stranded knitting with a Moutain Aven flower motif and shaped with evenly spaced decreases made within the flower.
The colorwork will make the heel sturdier and the toes toastier.

The pattern was first published as part of the Nordic designers sock box subscription in 2024 by Finish company Novita. It is now available as a single pattern.
