When we decided to go to Edinburgh Yarn Festival in March, we were looking forward to it being spring there.
When we arrived, the temperature was actually close to freezing point, and there was even snow falling during the weekend!
At our hotel in the Holyrood district of Edinburgh, we put the radiators on max and wrapped ourselves in wool. Still, I was longing for even cosier socks. With two skeins of Moods of Colors’ beautiful yarn in my hands, the idea for these socks was born!
In this design, I have used both stranded colourwork and brioche, I hope you will like the pattern and finished socks!
Sizes
X-Small (Small, Medium, Large)
The sock’s circumference round the ball of the foot is
15 (16.5, 18.5, 20.5) cm, to fit foot circumferences of
15.5-19 (17-20.5, 19-22.5, 20.5-24) cm.
The length of the sock is adjustable.
The sock’s leg circumference is 21 (23, 25.5, 27.5) cm
Suggested yarn
I suggest the Swedish indie-dyer Moods of Colors amazing yarn.
If you prefer yarn local to you, choose durable fingering weight sock yarn (approx 400m/100g)
Gauge
The foot of the socks are knit with a tight gauge to make the fabric more durable.
On 2.25 mm / US 1 needles:
36 sts and 48 rnds = 10x10 cm / 4x4” in stocking stitch after blocking
Make sure that both row and stitch gauge are correct if you want your socks to fit well. I am a tight knitter so you may need to go down a needle size to obtain gauge.
Colour Choice
Choose colours that are contrasting. A trick can be to take a photo of both yarns and look at the picture in black and white. If you can still see
a difference between the colours, then they have enough contrast.
MC:260 (290, 320, 350) m /
285 (320, 250, 380) yds
CC: 170 (190, 210, 230) m /
190 (210, 230, 250) yds
Note that metreage / yardage may differ depending on the length of the sock.
