Homey
Homey cardigan is that cardigan you reach for every time you need warmth and comfort. It is worked flat in one piece from the top down to allow for body and sleeve length customization to create the ideal garment for you.
After working short rows for shoulder shaping, the back piece is worked flat to the underarms. The fronts are picked up from the original cast on and worked flat to the underarms. From there, the fronts and back are joined and the rest of the body worked in one piece. The sleeves are worked in the round with subtle short row shaping, creating a comfortable upper arm fit that gently tapers to a 2x2 ribbed cuff. The button band is worked flat in 2x2 rib after picking up stitches on the edge of fronts and neck edge.
Homey provides an opportunity to get creative with colour: work the sweater in pattern using two colours, opt to vary the colour of the cuffs and button band, or use multiple contrast colours for the stripes, cuffs and button band. Whether you use the recommended yarn or you stash dive for scraps, Homey is a classic pattern you will enjoy wearing for years to come.
Sizes
Nine sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5)(6, 7, 8, 9) with finished garment chest circumference between 92cm/36.25” and 172cm/67.75”. Pictured in size 3 with 20cm positive ease.
Materials
MC: 4 (4, 4, 5, 5)(5, 6, 6, 6) skeins Louie & Lola Merino Possum 8 ply (DK weight) - 80% Merino, 20% Possum Fur (248 metres/271 yards per 100 grams), colour Kelp.
CC: 2 (2, 2, 2, 2)(2, 2, 2, 2) skeins Louie & Lola Merino Possum 8 ply (DK weight) - 80% Merino, 20% Possum Fur (248 metres/271 yards per 100 grams), colour Chai.
The yarn used is woollen spun, making it closer to a 10 ply (worsted weight). If substituting yarn, select a yarn with similar characteristics. Homey will use approximately:
MC: 811 (866, 945, 1081, 1138)(1195, 1327, 1391, 1461)metres/892 (953, 1040, 1190, 1252)(1314, 1460, 1530, 1607)yards
CC: 275 (283, 290, 315, 310)(312, 325, 325, 325)metres/303 (312, 319, 347, 341)(343, 358, 358, 358)yards
If substituting yarn, often it is difficult to match both stitch and row gauge. In that case, stitch gauge is more important and one needs to adjust the number of rows worked for the Fronts before joining fronts and back pieces. If the sleeve hole depth (measured from the shoulder edge of Fronts) has been reached before finishing Neck shaping, go to Joining Front and Back pieces section and then complete Neck shaping.
If working sleeve cuffs, hem ribbing or button band in other colours, these are the amounts needed
Hem Ribbing: 24 (27, 30, 33, 36)(39, 42, 45, 48)grams; or 60 (67, 74, 82, 89)(97, 104, 112, 119)metres/66 (74, 82, 91, 98)(107, 115, 124, 131)yards
Cuffs (both sleeves): 15 (15, 15, 16, 16)(16, 18, 18, 18)grams; or 37 (37, 37, 40, 40)(40, 45, 45, 45)metres/41 (41, 41, 44, 44)(44, 50, 50, 50)yards
Button-band: 40 (40, 40, 44, 44)(45, 48, 48, 48)grams; or 99 (99, 99, 109, 109)(112, 119, 119, 119)metres/109 (109, 109, 120, 120)(124, 131, 131, 131)yards
