Hömin Shawl
(Evening twilight)
Size:
Approx 56 inches across top of shawl and 11 inches in depth at center back of shawl.
Needles:
US#7/4.5mm straight needles (can also use 24 or 16 inch circular)
US#7/4.5mm 32 inch circular needle
Yarn:
475 yards laceweight yarn or 425 yards fingering weight yarn. Shown in: Madelinetosh Prairie (840 yrds/768 meters/114g; 100% Superwash Merino Wool) colour “Winter Wheat” and Old Maiden Aunt Superwash Merino 4ply (400 yards/100g; 100% Superwash Merino Wool) colour “Derelict Daughter”. Notions: Stitch markers (preferably split ring or something that can be removed easily) Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge:
21 sts and 48 rows = 4 inches in garter st on US#7/4.5mm needles. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Technical Notes:
This shawl is constructed by working a long vertical strip of edging first. Yarn over loops are then picked up along one side of the edging and the crescent shape is formed using short rows. There technically isn’t a wrong or right side of the shawl.
