My inspiration for Honey and Oats came from Kismet Fiber Works Simply Sock yarn in the color way “Toasted Oats”. The warm and toasty colors comes from careful hand-dyeing in Kismet Fiber Works’ studio in Buchanan, Virginia, right on the James River. As spring nears, I wanted to create a sock in a sunny color with a pattern associated with spring- and the sound of buzzing bees - so I used a “honeycomb” cable stitch pattern right down the front of the leg and on the instep of these socks, knitted in the color of sunshine.

This pattern is written for working in the round with four double-pointed needles. The socks are knit from the top down, featuring a ribbed cuff, ribbing behind the leg and a charted cable stitch pattern down the front of the leg, heel flap and wedge toe. Kitchener stitch is used to graft stitches together at the toe.

Finished Measurements: After blocking, about 7.25” (18.4 cm) foot circumference, 9” (22.8 cm) length, from tip of toe to back of heel.

Best fits a foot of about 8” in circumference and about 9.5” in length, with option to increase the length of the sock.

Gauge: 36 sts over 4” in stockinette using U.S. 1/2.25mm or needle size required for gauge.
