I love hoods and I love shawls and why not combine them?

The shawl is a basic triangular shape knit in stripy garter stitch, with a garter edge, slipped stitch selvedge and a 2-stitch centre column.

It took me a while to find the right shaping technique for a non-pointy hood, and I finally settled on knitting it like a giant short-row sock heel (I suggest German short rows, but you can use any method you feel comfortable with).
The hood can be placed in the centre (if you like to wear your shawl with the pointy side in back) or off-centre (if you wear your shawl as a scarf with the pointy side in front, like me).

This hooded shawl is sure to keep you stylishly warm!

You need 2 colours of fingering weight yarn:

• Shawl: 300 m of colour A, 370 m of color B
• Hood: 10 m of colour A, 220 m of colour B
• Total: 310 m of colour A, 590 m of color B

You can knit the hood in either A or B, whichever you prefer. I chose B (gray), as my A is a gradient.

R3 (Section 4): with colour B, k3, yo, k to M, M1R, sl M, k2, sl M, M1L, k to last 3 sts, yo, k2, sl1 wyif
