"Ho'okipa" shawl
“Ho’okipa” is a pretty crescent shaped shawlette named after beautiful beach on Maui were surfers and windsurfers gather to ride ocean waves.
“Ho’okipa” is worked sideways in one piece. Stockinette stitch body is shaped by series of increases and decreases.
A lovely lace and twisted stitch border runs along the bottom edge, which also lends itself to beading.
The size can be easily changed by adding more repeats of lace border.
The blue sample shown knit in “Shalimar Yarns” Breathless uses one skein of yarn (384m) and the blue/green sample knit in Dye For Yarn Merino/Silk DK uses 2 skeins (420m).
The pattern has written and charted instructions and is suited for intermediate and advanced skill levels. There is some patterning on the wrong side, albeit very easy.
“Ho’okipa” will be a great addition to any wardrobe as it is fun and functional! Wrap it around your neck for a great accent or knit it larger and wear it as a shawl!
