10 cm of stockinette stitch with 6 mm needles = 14 stitches
10 cm of stranded knitting with 7 mm needles = 14 stitches

Most knitters tend to knit tighter when knitting colourwork than when knitting plain stockinette stitch. Therefore, I have included in the pattern that you should go up half a needle size when knitting the colourwork. Gauge varies from person to person, so always knit a swatch before you begin.
