Horace the Horse
Adapted from a vintage 1939 Minerva pattern.
It would be nearly impossible to diagram how the horse fits together, but hopefully this will help: When you are finished knitting, you should have two pieces that look like the side of a horse, and one long piece for the underside that looks like a bearskin rug (the 26” long piece.) You can start by sewing the two side pieces together at the back, and then attaching the back end of the bearskin rug piece at the butt. You then sew the long piece to the inside of the back legs and belly, between the two side pieces, and then up the front of the horse between the two side pieces to make the head. (The bearskin rug piece should stop at the top of the face.) The two side pieces are then sewn together at the back of the neck. …It would be very hard to diagram this, but I hope this helps!
Also, one user commented on the number of rows required to make the mane. The answer is that you just keep knotting in mane “hair” strands until you have a mane of a thickness that you like. Everyone’s horse will look a little bit different!
