Horrocks's Scarf and Blanket
In episode 9 of season 1, we meet Horrocks, a redcoat deserter who holds the key to clearing Jamie’s name of murder but who tries to blackmail him instead. While Horrocks was a nasty piece of work, his scarf was delightful. It served as inspiration for this blanket and scarf pattern. Simple garter stitch, with some judiciously placed increases and decreases to bend the ridges, turns a plain stitch pattern into something striking.
Scarf/blanket is worked from the centre bottom up. There’s a central strip worked in purl garter stitch. The sections to each side of the central strip are worked in garter st and on the bias with increases at both ends. Just before the piece reaches its final width, extra sts are cast on each end for a self-edging. At this time, the centre is much longer than the outer edges. Continue working with no additional shaping until the piece reaches its final length. The left upper corner is worked, decreasing sts towards to outer corner, then the right upper corner is completed in the same manner. No additional finishing is required, other than sewing in ends.
