Hot Beverage Socks
Some days call for only a few things: a comfortable chair, warm feet, and a delicious hot beverage. Like most small knitting projects, these socks offer quick satisfaction from a finished project and comfort in the wearing – a double win! The ribbed texture pattern is easy to memorize; it creates a plush fabric with simple stitches. Knitting from the toe up allows you to stitch and try them on as you go.
Sample Yarn:
Birch Hollow Fibers Sylvia Sock 4-ply in “A Cloak of Mist”
75% Superwash Merino 25% Nylon; 463 yds/423m per 100g. Pattern sizes will use 1(2,2) skeins.
Gauge:
36 sts and 48 rows in 4 inches (10 cm) measured in stockinette stitch unblocked
Sizes:
1 (2, 3) with 6 (7, 8) in / 15 (18, 20) cm finished foot and leg circumference. See Pattern Notes for sizing recommendations.
Needles & Notions:
• US Size 1 (2.25mm) 32 or 40 inch (80 or 100 cm) circular needle
• Tapestry needle, scissors
• Removable stitch markers (optional)
Pattern Notes:
● Sock Construction: Toe-up, rounded toe, garter stitch short row heel, alternating rib texture pattern, short leg, and twisted rib cuff. The texture creates a significant amount of stretch
● Foot length and cuff length are knit to fit. The sample sock shown was knit to a 7” foot circumference, at a 9.25” foot length with a 3” leg, and a 1” cuff to fits a US Women’s Size 8). If you need more length or width in your sock, you will need more than 1 skein, or you can use 1 skein for the main color, then add a contrast or complimentary color for the toes, heels, and cuffs.
● The sample yarn is a light fingering weight knit at a 9st/in gauge. If you knit to the suggested gauge, choose your size according to your foot circumference. It is recommended that you knit the size that gives about 1” negative ease for good fit and durability.
● This pattern’s instructions are for Magic Loop knitting. The circular needle tips are referred to as N1 & N2. Adjust the instructions to your preferred method (DPNs, two circs, two at a time, etc.).
