2. The cowl can be looped once, twice, or even three times (!!!) around the neck. That means it’ll suit many different styles and temperamental weather, too.

5. Aran/heavy worsted weight yarn is easy to come by and lots of fun to wear.

Construction Details
The Hot Flashes Cowl is made in one piece along the short edge and requires a little bit of seaming or grafting to turn it into a closed loop. It is up to the knitter to decide if they would like to work a standard cast-on and then seam the ends together or if they would like to work a provisional cast-on and then graft the ends together or work a 3-needle bind off. You could even choose not to close the cowl and keep it as a scarf.

Suggested Yarn: 300 yards of Heavy Worsted or Aran weight (CYCA #4) yarn. Sample made with Schoppel Reggae Ombre (100% virgin wool, 109 yds / 50 g) 3 balls.

Gauge: 12 stitches and 16 rows = 4 in mesh pattern stitch.

Needle: US 10 (6 mm) needles. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Additional materials: tapestry needle, waste yarn for provisional cast on (optional).
