Hour Glass Cardigan
I call this the “Hour Glass Cardigan” because that is what you knit to create this untraditional cardigan.
The circular shape creates a long back, large shawl collar and bolero type front. It is designed in such a way that there is minimal shaping and finishing. All techniques used are clearly described in the stitch glossary. Recommended for the advanced beginner to intermediate knitter.
You knit an hour glass shape that is folded in half to create the body of the cardigan. Starting at the bottom, knit in 2X2 ribbing, change to 1X1 ribbing and then back to 2X2 ribbing. Stitches are picked up around the armhole edges and the ¾ length sleeves are knit down to a flared bottom. The sleeves are knit in the round to eliminate seams.
Sizes: To fit sizes: small (32”-34”), medium (36”-38”), large (40”- 42”).
The self striping Boku works up nicely in this pattern. However, another aran weight yarn that matches gauge can certainly be used.
The pattern includes color photos of the finished project, easy to follow directions, a list of abbreviations and a stitch glossary explaining the techniques used in the project.
