The original sample of the House Hat with a pom pom is approximately 7.5 inches from cast on edge to top of hat (not to the top of the pom pom) and 10” wide when laid flat.

PATTERN NOTES:
This textured hat is more of a recipe than a set-in-stone pattern. It is designed to sit snug to the head and hits just to the bottom of the ears, it is not intended to be a slouchy beanie. If you would like a longer hat, or one with a foldable brim, simply repeat the four rounds of broken seed stitch pattern as many times as you wish before beginning the decreases.

For a tighter brim: try using the Cable Cast On Method (also a great choice if using an ombré colored yarn) or cast on and work the first two rounds with a size or two smaller than the needles you will use for the body of the hat. (example: use US 7 for the cast on and first two rounds, then switch to US 9 for the rest of the hat).

For looser knitters, a size US 8 needle may work best. For tighter knitters, try using US 10 to 11 needles. Knitting a swatch first is always helpful.
