I "heart" Austria vest and cap
skill base: you must know how to read charts for the 6 diamonds on the vest and the cap. Knitting in the round is also a must.
This vest is a labor of love -- we lived in Austria for 2 years a few years ago and we still miss the village (but have my youngest son as a daily reminder!).
The vest is knit in one-piece to underarms (with a 2st slipped seam on either side), split for fronts and back, and then finished. Armhole band is knit-on after 3nbo the shoulders. The collar is simple garter stitch to lay flat. The vest, for a size large (finished 48” chest), took about 1000 yards of worsted weight wool in a natural tone. The sample used KP’s Bare Wool of the Andes
The vest has optional, knit-in pockets, too!
The cap is one size fits all -- a great place to practice chart reading before working on the vest. There are six different diamonds reminiscent of Austrian/Bavarian knitting. The cap is wonderfully warm since the 2-1/2” cuff is backed with a 3x3rib to ensure a close (and well-insulated) fit.
Enjoy!
