I'll Huff and I'll Puff - Sticks
This toy box is available as a single pattern or as The Three Little Pigs Knit Toy Box e-book Collection. A discount equal to the cost of any patterns you have already purchased will be available to you if you decide to purchase the e-book.
Perhaps not strong enough for a house, but this makes a fine container. The Three Little Pigs would be proud to call this their toy box. It also looks beautiful stuffed with yarn and tucked into your book shelf. Cable patterning knit in a rustic looking grey-brown yarn echoes the texture and depth of twigs. Feel free to knit as your mood takes you and wander where the cables lead you rather than strictly follow the chart. After knitting, the piece is carefully wrapped around a supporting cube constructed from wooden skewers.

Pattern is designed to be knit back and forth on long needles. This makes it easier to keep track of which rows the cables fall on. It could easily be converted to be worked in the round if less seaming is desired.
Supplies:
o less than 1 ball of Cascade Yarns Ecological Wool, or approximately 400 yards of bulky weight yarn.
o US 8 (5.0 mm) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. Although it is knitted flat, the piece will measure more than 36 inches across, so long circular needles are required.
o 36 wooden skewers, 9 inches (23 cm) long (one package is more than enough)
o Masking tape, to secure the wooden frame into shape
Gauge:
16.5 stitches and 22.5 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in sticks cable (washed and blocked)
16 stitches and 22.5 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch (washed and blocked)
Skills:
o Knitting back and forth on circular needles
o Cabling
o Chart reading (cable pattern does not have written instructions)
o Seaming pieces together
