Imladris is a slouchy hat featuring a strongly textured lace pattern. Inspired by the landscape of Rivendell and Lothlórien in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, the lace on this hat reminds me of a lattice of intertwining branches and leaves. The lace pattern is straightforward and easy to remember, which combined with the aran or heavy-worsted weight yarn makes for a quick knit. The pattern comes in six sizes: toddler and child sizes as well as four adult sizes.

SIZE
Toddler (Child, Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large, Adult Extra Large). Samples shown are a size Adult Small (yellow hat), Child (purple hat) and Toddler (dark pink hat).

YARN USED TO MAKE THE HATS PICTURED

MATERIALS NEEDED
Aran or heavy worsted weight yarn, approximately 86 (116, 136, 148, 184, 220) yds or 88 (106, 124, 135, 168, 201) m.
1 US #9/5.5mm circular needle of 16in or 40cm or size needed to obtain gauge.
1 set of US #9/5.5mm double-point needles or same size as 16in needle used.
1 stitch marker.
1 darning needle.

GAUGE
16 sts/24 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10cm) in stockinette stitch.

PATTERN NOTES
The hat is worked in the round on a circular needle. While decreasing at the top, when the top becomes too small to fit on the circular needle, switch to double pointed needles or your preferred method of working in the round on a small project.
