In the Golden Hall
Set upon a green terrace, there stands aloft a great hall of Men. And it seems to my eyes that it is thatched with gold. The light of it shines far over the land. Golden, too, are the posts of its doors. There men in bright mail stand.
-J.R.R. Tolkien, “The King of the Golden Hall“
Skill Level: Intermediate, due to heavy cabling
Materials: Approximately 330-380 yds / 300-340m of sock yarn. Plan on using a bit more yarn than you would for an average pair of socks. The socks pictured feature Madeline Tosh Sock in the colorway “Candlewick”
Tools: Cable needle (if necessary), tape measure, scissors, & tapestry needle
Needles: US1/2.25mm sock needles
Gauge: 8 stitches & 12 rounds per 1 inch or 2.5cm in stockinette stitch.
Sizing: Small (Medium, Large) sizes have a circumference of approximately 8(9,10) inches. Note: The cables here pull in considerably, and result in a rather inelastic fabric. If in doubt, go up a size. This is also the reason the leg has such a large stitch count.
