In the Shallows
Bold columns of alternating lace and eyelet patterns give these socks a lovely texture which is simple enough for new sock knitters while also providing enough detail to keep the interest of the more experienced sock knitter.
The pattern is written to use magic-loop method of circular knitting which can easily be modified for the double-pointed needles or 2 circulars methods, if preferred.
Worked from the cuff-down with a heel flap/gusset heel.
Available in two sizes, the lace stitch pattern provides a degree of ease to the finished measurements, making this pattern very suitable for varying sizing, and there is also provision for custom-fitting the foot length before beginning the toe shaping.
Both written instructions and a chart have been included for the lace panels.
Techniques used:
Magic Loop - a circular knitting method that uses a long circular cable needle in such a way to allow you to work a small circumference item, such as socks or the crown of hats
Alternate Cable cast on - a lovely, stretchy cast-on method that works particularly well with 1x1 rib
Kitchener stitch - a method of grafting used to seamlessly join the toes of socks together
There are excellent tutorials and videos available free online to assist if you are not familiar with any of these methods.
This pattern has been test knit and tech edited.
