Notes From the Designer:
Indivisible will take you on a yearlong journey of exploring new stitches using spectacular colors, while reflecting on what’s important in life – connection, harmony, continuity, and happiness.
Constructed by several very different pieces and using a variety of techniques, the full glory of Indivisible isn’t revealed until all the clues come together to build one big, harmonious unit. With the option of two different ways to finish the pattern, you will have the opportunity to create the ideal piece to fit your needs and desires.

- Indivisible is a design that is made up of nine squares that are connected to a big one and finished off with two sets of borders, if you wish to make a blanket. For the shrug version, you will connect the respective corners to sleeves, and add a border to the body section. Each square is unique and differs in texture, construction, and stitch pattern. The goal was to use a new technique/stitch in every clue to make it challenging, but also fun.
- Clues 1-9 are interchangeable. If the instructions are too challenging, you can substitute a square with a previous clue at any time.
- Please make sure to carefully read every clue’s specific note before starting each clue.
- Because I am a tight crocheter, I highly recommend checking your gauge against mine to ensure that you have enough yarn to complete the design and reach the desired measurements.
- Gauge is crucial to this project, since most clues use almost all of the yardage given in a skein. Please make sure to be on gauge to not run out of yarn.
- Each clue’s notes include unblocked and blocked square measurements, as well as gauge details. These are mainly for you to keep track of tension while working on your square and to avoid running out of yarn. Please adjust your crochet hook size up or down if you significantly deviate from the specified numbers. It is preferable to get a smaller square than a larger one.
- Each square is blocked after finishing the clue. You can opt to block everything before connecting all the clues. Be advised that Clues 1-9 need to have the same final dimensions.
- The pattern uses 12 colors but can be made with more or fewer, if preferred.
- The blanket version used approximately 2024 yds (1851 m) – C1: 169 yds (155 m), C2: 186 yds (170 m), C3: 173 yds (158 m), C4: 150 yds (137 m), C5: 186 yds (170 m), C6: 173 yds (158 m), C7: 165 yds (151 m), C8: 179 yds (164 m), C9: 154 yds (141 m), C10: 167 yds (153 m), C11: 150 yds (137 m), and C12: 175 yds (160 m). These yardages only include the amounts used in the clues themselves. Extra yardage used as colorwork will be specified in the respective clue notes.
- The shrug version used approximately 1988 yds (1818 m) – C1: 179 yds (164 m), C2: 184 yds (168 m), C3: 177 yds (162 m), C4: 150 yds (137 m), C5: 184 yds (168 m), C6: 182 yds (166 m), C7: 169 yds (155 m), C8: 181 yds (166 m), C9: 159 yds (145 m), C10: 167 yds (153 m), C11: 142 yds (130 m), and C12: 113 yds (103 m).
- You can choose to use a ch 2 at the beginning of rows/rounds instead of a chainless starting double crochet. The ch 2 at the beginning of rows does NOT count as a stitch throughout the pattern unless otherwise indicated. First double crochet will go into stitch containing ch 2.
- VERY IMPORTANT: You will need to keep the leftover partial skeins, as you will need some of them later in the pattern.
- The pattern includes written instructions, as well as charts for each clue.

“The soul may not be destroyed. The soul goes on forever. Like the number pi, it is without cessation or conclusion. Like pi it is a constant. Pi is an irrational number, incapable of being made into a fraction, impossible to divide from itself. So, too, the soul is an irrational, indivisible equation that perfectly expresses one thing: you.” – Joe Hill
