“Ink” is the perfect cardigan to slip on when the balmy days of summer transition to the chilly days of autumn. Named for the color of the yarn, it is also a reminder that autumn brings with it the beginning of a new school year. Knitted in fingering yarn and reverse stocking stitch from the collar down, the cables on the garment bring to mind the V’s of birds flying south for the winter.
Sizes: XS (XS1, S, M, L, XL, 2X)
To fit chest: 28” (30”, 34”, 38”, 42”, 46”, 50”)
Cardigan is meant to be oversized with 1” - 2” (2½ cm – 5 cm) of positive ease.
The yardage requirements for each size: approximately 1225 (1400, 1400, 1575, 1575, 1750, 1750)
Gauge: 27 sts and 29 rows per 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch with US 4 – 3.5 mm needles
30 sts and 32 rows per 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch with US 2½ - 3 mm needles – save time by checking the gauge.
Please note that I knit loosely so you may need different sized needles to obtain gauge.
Also, note that cables end right on the sides for the larger sizes but go beyond the sides to the back on the smaller sizes.
A New Year’s surprise to all of you!
A very talented and fabulous Selina, littlesplines on ravelry, had a wonderful idea.
She has created a transitional chart for the sleeves so that the cable starts less abruptly and pulls the fabric a little more gradually. Instead of starting the main cable pattern when the sleeve directions instruct you to do so, start Selina’s transition chart. When you have knitted all the rows of the transition chart, continue with the cable pattern.
Thank you a million Selina!!!! I love it!!!**
