A rich play of textures, Into gold begins by casting on the cabled band provisionally, working it from end to end, then joining it in the round. Stitches are then picked up along one edge, and the crown worked in Woven Stitch, with decorative decreases that pinwheel slightly. The lower edge of the band is finished with a smooth I-cord.

SIZES
Small, Large

FINISHED BAND MEASUREMENT
20 (22)“ [51 (56) cm] in circumference. For the best fit, choose a size that is 1–2” [2.5–5 cm] smaller than actual head measurement.

YARN
1 skein Emma by The Woolen Rabbit,
85% Polwarth / 15% silk, 330 yd (302 m) per 115 g skein, in Toadflax

or 190 (230) yds / 174 (210) m sport or light DK weight yarn.

GAUGE
Because the band of the hat is worked from end to end, the primary gauge for the pattern is the row gauge for the Coin Cable band.

Band gauge: 11 sts x 32 rows = 1½ x 4” in Coin Cable pattern, finished gauge after washing and blocking. Suggested needle size: US 5 (3.75 mm).

TECHNIQUES
Provisional cast-on, knitting, purling, picking up stitches, knitting through the back loop, slipping stitches, I-cord bind-off, working in the round.
