This colorwork/stranded knitting cowl is worked in the round. It begins and ends with a 2-color garter stitch border, and features tree and leaf motifs through the body.

If you wish to substitute yarn, you will need a fingering-weight yarn, but the sample used Finullgarn, 100% wool fingering weight yarn, 191 yards/50-g skeins. MC (main color): 411 (bark). CC1: 424 (scarlet), CC2: 450 (yellow), CC3: 419 (cinnamon), CC4: 428 (cranberry), CC5: 476 (herb green), CC6: 486 (pine green). You will need one ball of each colorway to knit sample as written, although you will not need more than about 45 yards of each of the contrast colors.

Suggested skills: Knit and purl in the round, chart-reading skills, and stranded knitting skills. This pattern, while not suitable for a true beginning knitter, would be a great way to start knitting stranded colorwork.

Kits for this project are available through The Yarn Guys. Contact them if you’d like to knit this version exactly as pictured.
