Iola Blanket
The Iola Blanket has a modular construction. The use of perpendicular and intersecting stripes creates a striking visual effect.
The centre panel begins with a provisional cast-on. One half of the striped panel is knitted from the centre diagonal with fashioned decreasing on both edges. The provisional cast-on is unravelled and the second half of the panel is worked.
Four striped triangles are worked separately, and the shaped edges are joined to the centre panel.
The fashioned decreasing creates an easy sewing edge, perfect for mattress stitch.
The blanket is finished with a simple garter stitch border, picked up and worked outwards along each side with mitred corners for a neat finish.
This blanket requires intermediate knitting skills.
