Iraida
The third pattern in the Nordic Mitten Club ventures from Scandinavia to Russia. This design inspired the entire mitten club. So when Russia invaded Ukraine, I considered abandoning the entire club. A month later my maternal grandmother passed away, and I knew I had to carry on with the club and these mittens. My grandmother was the last of seven children born to my Russian great grandparents. They were from Arkhangelsk in Russia and Kyiv in Ukraine. I decided that now, more than ever, it’s crucial to distinguish between the cultural heritage of a people from the cruel actions of a dictator.
These mittens are named after my Russian great grandmother Iraida.
I used 5 colours of sport-weight Rauma Finullgarn, but you can easily use 2 colours.
I hope you will enjoy this pattern, and if you need any help, please do not hesitate to contact me in my Ravelry group ‘Skeindeer Knits’. It’s the best place for swift support.
