Iridian Shawl
INTRO
Iridian Shawl is designed as a part of the Teal Torch Knits’ Winter Solstice (Advent Yarn) collection.
This pattern includes instructions for both the fingering weight yarn and DK weight yarn to make this shawl.
It is designed to use up ALL of the yarns in this advent collection (with very little leftover at the end).
The shawl starts on one corner with an i-cord edging that is worked throughout the pattern and gradually increases on one side to create a triangle shaped shawl.
After the beginning section where the first mini skein color is used, the full skein (100gm) yarn is introduced for a pop of fun. A second mini skein color is added and the two minis will be worked on at the same time at the brioche section.
Once the first mini skein is all used up, the third mini is then added and the following minis will keep being added until all 21 mini skeins are used up.
The full skein yarn which has been worked throughout the pattern will finish up the shawl at the end.
YARN SUBSTITUTE
If a full skein (100gm) is not part of your advent…
For Fingering yarn, you can always substitute with another 100gm yarn, a 50gm yarn or even a 25gm yarn.
For DK yarn, you can always substitute with another 100gm yarn or even a 50gm yarn.
If using yarn that’s less than 100gm, the last section (MC section) will be a lot less.
MINI SKEIN COLOR CHANGE
Most of the time the colors will be switched in the middle of a section.
You will be switching YOUR colors sooner/later then indicated on this pattern.
Use this pattern as a guideline.
This design is meant to use every inch of your yarn, so switch colors whenever you run out.
All the mini skeins will be divided by EVEN and ODD contrast color.
All the ODD colors will be followed by the next ODD color.
For example: Start with C1 (first mini skein), when that color runs out, use C3 (third mini skein)
All the EVEN colors will be followed by the next EVEN color.
For example: Start with C2 (second mini skein), when that color runs out, use C4 (fourth mini skein)
IF USING A DIFFERENT ADVENT OR MINIS…
A modified version of this pattern is also provided to fit ANY other advent or mini skeins you have on hand! You can use the same stitch patterns but change it up to fit your needs to make this shawl.
See pages 14 & 15 for the modified version.
