Irish Shoal Socks
A lovely and quick to knit sock design. A super stretchy, unique lace pattern created especially for this sock, spirals around the leg, and continues onto the instep.
This is a top down design with charts provided for the leg & foot lace patterns. Although written for double points the pattern can be easily converted for two circulars or magic loop techniques. Due to the very stretchy nature of the lace pattern these socks will fit a foot circumference of 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 inches. (My leg measured at the top of the cuff is 13” & the ball of my foot measures 7 1/2”).
Originally designed for Three Irish Girls Sock Yarnista club, this design was inspired by the Giant’s Causeway, which lies off the north coast of Ireland. It’s an amazing formation of over 40,000 naturally-occurring basalt columns, now designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Legend says the Causeway was built by Finn MacCool, leader of the guardians of the King of Ireland. Some say Finn built the Causeway so the Scottish giant Benandonner could come to Ireland to fight with Finn. And some say Finn built the Causeway so he could visit his love in Scotland. However the Causeway came to be, there’s nothing else like it on earth.
