Isen
Inspired by the complex geometry of ice crystals, Isen is knitted from the bottom up starting with the deep ruffled border. The textured section is worked next (CHART ONLY) - embossed stitches outline geometric shapes reminiscent of ice crystals with sparkling beads added throughout (252 4.0 mm magatama glass beads, optional). The shawl is then shaped into a crescent with simple reverse stockinette short rows (no wraps), which are finished with a beaded border. 3-stitch I-cord bind off is worked last to reinforce the shawl’s top edge.
finished measurements:
Wingspan: 43” / 109 cm after blocking
Length at center back: 19” / 48.5 cm after blocking
suggested yarn:
4 skeins Halcyon Yarn 2/5 Gemstone Silk (260 yd / 238 m per 3 ½ oz / 100 g skein; 100% Silk) in color #107
needles:
Size 5 US / 3.75 mm circular needle, 40” / 100 cm long
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
notions:
252 4 mm glass Magatama beads (See Notes), crochet hook size 0.75 mm (small enough to fit through holes of beads), cable needle, tapestry needle
gauge:
16 sts and 30 rows = 4” / 10 cm in reverse
Stockinette stitch, after blocking
14 July 2014 - error in the directions for Chart A - it reads “work rows 1 - 32”; however, Chart A has 34 rows so the directions should read “work rows 1 - 34”. The chart itself is correct.
