The Needs:


• One US 5 (3.75mm) 24-32” circular needle.
• (Optional) one US 6 (4mm) , US 7 (4.5mm), or US 8(5mm) needle used only for the Bind Off.
• Four stitch markers and one clip on stitch marker to mark the right side. 

 Gauge:

 10 stitches and 9 rows per 2” of doubled garter stitch, blocked.
• Finished Dimensions:

 97” long. At its thinnest point, 1”, at its widest, 31”.

The Yarn:

I used 3 full skeins of Lolodidit’s Loriginal base (440yd/100g) and 2 Lil Lolo Loriginal minis (124yd/28g), which is a fingering weight yarn made up of 85% Extra Fine Superwash Merino and 15% nylon. In total around 1550-1600 yards are required for the shawl.

If you’re worried about running out, I would recommend purchasing an extra mini. It’s also a great idea to make this a scrappy shawl; using 12 Lil Lolo’s would give you enough.

Stitches/Techniques Used:

Garter stitch, simple eyelet mesh, holding the yarn double, rotating in colors as you please (with extensive notes on how to rotate colors in or even make the shawl a fade), one section of short row lace for the “Heart” shaping. Designed for the adventurous beginner knitter.

The Backstory:



Ok, so I fell in love there for a second. I’ll admit it, not a problem. While in love, I thought of the idea for a heart-shaped shawl that had big lace holes on the wide end to effectively make the shawl a cowl by taking the tail end and weaving it through the lace. 



This was perfect for the Lolodidit kit Lauren and I put together. To make a heart in non traditional colors was right up my alley, so I cast on and feverishly began knitting.



Big shock: I ended up heartbroken. So it became my broken heart shawl. Then the blues and greens were really perfect for my mood, and I continued to knit with fervor.



And I realized how pointless it was to keep track of what color or colors I was using where and when. So I kept the pattern simple, just giving notes on how and when to change colors. I’ve ensured through test knitting that if you have enough yardage as I recommend, you’ll have enough yarn regardless of when and where you use it.



In the end, I’m still kinda in love, and he kinda loves me back, so maybe we are figuring it out in our own ways. And by that I mean I told him to go figure out what he wants and get back to me while I live my life.

And so it’s become my moving on shawl.
