Recently, lots of babies are being born in my community and since everybody seems to know that I am an avid knitter, there is an expectation that I will produce a knitted baby gift.

Baby hats are much faster to knit than clothing or blankets and since I would like some time to knit for myself too, I came up with this pattern. This hat looks cute on boys or girls.

Sizes: 17 (18, 20)” or 43 (46, 50) cm hat circumference/fits from ages 3-6 months (6-12 months, 12 months – 3 years), but can also fit a toddler since head size does not change that much.

Yardage: Fingering weight yarn – approx. 140 (160, 180) yards/128 (146, 165) meters

Needles: U.S. 3 (3.25 mm) circular needles - 16” in length or DPN or longer circular needle if using magic loop, always use the size needle that gets gauge! If you have a tendency to knit loosely, use a U.S. 2 needle instead.

Notions: stitch markers (2 different colors), spare needles or scrap yarn to hold stitches, tapestry needle, 3 small buttons

Gauge: 28 sts & 40 rows for 4”/10.2 cm on size U.S. 3 (3.25 mm) needles
