This 1841 edging pattern is from Mrs. (Jane) Gaugain’s book published in London. It starts with 7 stitches and has 10 pattern rows. The very lacy look is created by double yarn overs that are worked as 2 stitches in the following row.
The edging is 1.75 inches at its widest blocked at gauge but any gauge will work.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, YO twice, k2tog and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

18 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make 10 inches of this edging at gauge.
