Jasmine Stitch Hat
You can use the jasmine stitch and the steps given in this pattern to crochet hats of all sizes, using a wide variety of yarns. The pattern includes video tutorials that help you through every step. If you’re just getting started, I recommend using a heavier yarn and larger hook (as listed for my samples). Make sure you use a yarn that is not splitty.
The jasmine stitch is created by working clusters of puff stitches. This stitch creates a dense, squishy fabric. The thicker the yarn, the more dense your hat will be. Thinner yarn will also work beautifully, but will require more stitches and rows/rounds.
You can use any yarn and corresponding hook. Because of this gauge will vary. In general, you’ll need 100 grams for infant and toddler size hats, 150 grams for child size hats, and up to 200 grams for adult hats. The actual amounts of yarns will vary depending on personal tension, hook size, and size of hat.
This hat is worked from the crown down. The crown of the hat can be worked flat or in the round, and instructions are given for both. The size of the crown will determine the finished hat circumference. A chart is included that gives dimensions for hats sized from 14” (infant) to 24” (adult large). From there you work the body of the hat in the round. Finally, you can add optional ribbing (also worked in the round).
