Je Ne Sais Quoi
That sense. That feeling! Je Ne Sais Quoi is an English pattern uniting the French idiom with a part shawl, part scarf, part cowl, in a “I just don’t know what” fashionista design packing in a ton of attitude! Dare down the hottest summer days donned in your carefree hand knit, Je Ne Sais Quoi, with mindset to match. Add beads for a tres chic look or go without for a casual fashion flare.
The easy (not beginner) level tech edited / test knit pattern is fully written. Recommended skills - picot cast on, short rows, decrease, bind off. BOWT demo here. Note: pattern includes both the full pattern as well as a compiled version from the mystery knit-a-long in June 2018. The compiled version also includes the Find Your Yarn-I-tude game.
Picking the best yarn: approximately 300 yards per 100 grams of your favorite sport weight yarn, given the summer appeal and light weight nature. The design works up in 77% main color and 23% contrasting color. Not into stripes? It would also look smashing in a single-skein gradient, semi-solid, tonal, or single color too!
Designer sample knit in 270yds/ 240m per 90g/ 3.17oz sport weight eco yarn: 210yds/ 192m per 70g/ 2.47oz Logwood (MC) and 60yds/ 55m per 20g/ 0.71oz Myrobalan & Iron (CC) Vegan Yarn Capella 100% organic cotton, Fair Trade, hand dyed yarn with 136 glass Japanese Seed beads.
Single skein info on the sample yarn: 300yds/ 274m per 100g/ 3.53oz.
Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows over 4”/ 10cm in Stockinette Stitch. Note: exact gauge is not critical to this design. Gauge variations may impact final size and yardage requirements.
