Jerusalem Artichoke flowers are great fun in that they come in a wide variety of sizes, numbers and they are nothing if not abundant about blooming. These flowers were inspired by the mass of plants growing beside the authors drive. The flowers in the pattern are designed to be knit as a single unit and the directions include suggestions on how to create variety in the blooms. The pattern also includes directions for multiple sizes of leaves, since when assembling an JA stalk of blooms multiple sized of leaves are also needed to realistically recreate nature. The gauge listed is what was used on the sample flowers, but larger and smaller flowers can be created by using larger and smaller yarns. Feel free to experiment. Very little yarn is needed of each colour so multiple blooms can be made from a single skein or just bits of left over yarns. The stalk is assembled using floral wire and tape.
