The main body of this pattern is worked in 140 yards of bulky weight red heatherd wool yarn, with 75 yards each of dark orange gold and yellow sport weight wool yarn used for the back spines and neck frill. The belly is worked in 65 yards of sport weight white wool yarn and 45 yards of bulky weight wool yarn and 30 yards of sport weight light red yarn.

The body pattern is worked on size 10 1/2 needles, while the belly is worked on size 1, 5 and 10 1/2 needles.
