Joey is the perfect weekend cardigan. It is fitted through the shoulders with plenty of room in the body and hips. This along with the vertical stripes makes it flattering while comfortable. Make it with a plant fiber based yarn like linen or hemp for warm weather or a wool based yarn for cool weather. Either way you will want to wear it all the time. I made the sample with Shibui’s wonderful Reed which has drape to die for! Joey is a boyish nickname for Josephine capturing the mix of sophisticated styling with relaxing comfort. Also it means Jehovah increases, can’t go wrong with that!

Needles: Size 7/4.5mm 24”/60 cm (or longer) circular needle and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles.

Other: Locking markers, stitch markers, stitch holders, waste yarn, cable needle and tapestry needle.

Gauge: 18 sts and 28 rows = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette Stitch with 2 strands held together.

Notes: This cardigan is constructed from the top down in one piece with set-in sleeves. The shoulders are shaped with short rows. The garment is designed with a tailor-fitted yoke and is loose fitting from there down. Check the cross back measurement to help determine the size to make.
The length of the body and sleeves is easily adjusted.
The shawl collar is worked from picked up stitches along the front edges.
Hold two strands of yarn together throughout. A single strand of worsted may be substituted for the double strand of fingering weight.
