Joey
I’m offering 25% off (no code needed) through Dec 23 to celebrate my second balaclava design launch. Enjoy!
Joey Balaclava is a design made for my younger sister Joey. Worked bottom up with a brushed alpaca blend, this piece has an intentionally relaxed fit that makes it comfortable for wearing all day. It starts with a 2x2 rib at the neck and uses raglan shaping to create a naturally rounded back. The top is grafted with Kitchener stitch and the face opening has a folded hem for a clean edge. The soft fuzzy texture gives warmth without weight, practical for daily winter wear and the kind of thing you make when you want someone to stay cozy.
SIZE
One size.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Neck circumference: 15” / 38 cm.
Neck rib: 4.75” / 12 cm.
Hood height (excluding neck rib): 12.25” / 31 cm.
Hood depth: 11.75” / 30 cm.
Face opening hem: 0.5” / 1.5 cm.
MATERIALS
Yarn:
MC: 2 balls of DROPS Melody by Garnstudio (71% Alpaca, 25% wool, 4% Polyamide, 153 yds / 140 m – 50 g), in the colourway 04 Grey.
Or approx. 235 yds / 220 m of bulky yarn.
CC: 1 ball of DROPS Melody by Garnstudio (71% Alpaca, 25% wool, 4% Polyamide, 153 yds / 140 m – 50 g), in the colourway 05 Black.
Or approx. 60 yds / 55 m of bulky yarn.
For best results, substitute with a brushed, blown-style yarn featuring alpaca or other soft fibers. The yarn should feel cloud-like, have a visible fuzzy halo, and offer warmth without weight. A bulky but lightweight yarn with a soft bloom will give the closest match to DROPS Melody.
Needles: 2 of US 6 / 4.00 mm 16” / 40 cm circular needles, US 8 / 5.00 mm 16” / 40 cm circular needles.
Notions: Stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn, contrasting smooth waste yarn.
GAUGE
16 sts x 24 rows to 4” / 10 cm on US 8 / 5.00 mm needles in St St, after steam blocking.
