Joey's Fair Isle Beanie & Slouchy Hat
A Seemingly simple fair isle hat with a couple of tricks up my sleeve.
Wanting to make a hat for my son that he would wear, I suggested he create a color work design. Great design, except he had no idea how difficult it is to knit small stripes of different colors in the round. I also had to use an acrylic blend (because 100% wool is too itchy for him) and the typical beanie stretches out of shape. To solve these problems I designed a hat with a hem which gives stability, extra warmth and it hides all those ends. The traveling jogless stripe technique makes a very smooth transition for knitting stripes and detailed instructions are included. I didn’t stop there however, I decided to also included a slouchy version.
How to change colors for the stripes in the round is fully explained along with how to knit the hem. A complete list of abbreviations, a stitch glossary explaining the techniques used in the project and graph are included. Experience with knitting in the round is recommended.
Level: advanced beginner to intermediate.
