This purse has it all: fringe, pom-poms, tassels, and more! The floral embellishments are created by embroidering over lace fabric, a technique that lends stability to the stitching. The purse body is worked in the round, and a separate circle is attached for the flap. A snap closure keeps everything in place.

Hook Size E/4 (3.5 mm) and B/1 (2.25 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

NOTES

• This bag is worked in four pieces. The body is worked in rounds from the bottom up. The flap and snap reinforcement are worked in rounds from the center out, and the tassel guide is worked in turned rows.

• The flap is stitched to the top of the bag on the back exterior of the bag, over the extended ends of the braided strap.

• Prepare the fringe before seaming the bottom of the bag; the fringe is added as the seam is worked.

• When changing the yarn color for the stripes, do not fasten off the old color; carry the nonworking color up the wrong side of the bag.

• Cut out embroidery templates from purchased lace cloth. Be sure the lace fabric you purchase for this project has motifs that are large enough to be embroidered (i.e., avoid the fine, all-over lace patterns). Hint: Wait to purchase the lace until you have finished the purse flap so you can see if you like the size /shape of the lace pieces.

• The smaller hook is used for bead placement on the fringe and tassels.

• To make the increases less noticeable, avoid placing an increase into an increase from the previous round; place them in a different location on each round.

• Round joins are worked in back loops only. All other stitches are worked through both loops unless otherwise noted.
