This is the main cover project in the 2 Great Makes supplement which was enclosed with Let’s Knit! Magazine 34, September 2010, and designed for use with the set of 5mm dpns given free with the same magazine. A tutorial for using dpns is included on page 30 of Magazine 34.

It’s a small, ribbed tote bag with a band of simple fairisle and a crocheted top edge in contrast colour. The bag is lined with cotton fabric and reinforced with buckram, and these fabrics are also used to make the handles. The ribbed bag is knitted in the round from the top down, then the base is made of two stockinet flaps separated by short cast-off sections, and seamed later to make a rectangular base.

2 x 50g of main colour and 1 x 50g of contrast colour are required in the recommended yarn. There is no stitch diagram or chart.

Additional materials:
Stitch marker
Cotton fabric fat quarter (46cm x 55cm)
Self adhesive curtain heading buckram 60cm x 13 cm
Sewing machine
Matching thread
Embroidery needle
Point protectors for needles (or bottle corks)

Suggested yarn alternative:
Debbie Bliss Donegal Aran Tweed.
