Jumis Wrist Warmers
Fitted wrist warmers using Latvian mitten techniques like knitted fringe. The pattern is engineered for Urth Yarns Uneek striped yarn.
A companion pattern for boot cuffs is available. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/jumis-boot-cuffs
There is an option for petite, as well as long versions with XXL for a larger wrist and lower arm shape.
A skein of Urth Yarns Harvest fingering and Uneek fingering is needed, and you have enough yarn to knit two pairs of wrist warmers, or wrist warmers and Jumis boot cuffs.
In Latvia the sun doesn’t go up and down, it goes around the sky. We are as far north as Juneau, Alaska. From the windows on the north side of my house I can see both the sunrise and sunset in summer, but in winter I never see the sun at all. Things here turn with the sun or against the sun instead of clockwise and counterclockwise. When you go against the sun you clean out and release, going with the sun protects and holds in. Knitting in the round you knit with the sun. Knitting fringe you turn and knit against the sun. The perfect time to let go of whatever you are holding inside. Never think bad thoughts while knitting, then mistakes happen. What I do is breathe. Winding and knitting the fringe I breath in deeply. As I pull my finger out I breathe out and let go of whatever needs to leave. It works. After the first row I no longer need to think about it, it just comes naturally and I am happier for it.
Jumis is a two headed grain. It is a symbol of fertility and abundance. When you clear out the unnecessary, there is room for an abundance of goodness to enter.
