My grandmother, June, was an avid knitter. She was happy to knit anything for anyone. She made countless mittens and hats for her grandkids, socks for my grandfather, preemie hats to donate, and an unbelievable number of prayer shawls for friends in need. When I asked her if it bothered her to knit for everyone else, she said: “no, it’s just what my hands like to do…keeps me busy.” It took me years of knitting to truly understand what she meant. My hands prefer certain types of patterns, certain types of yarn, certain needle sizes. Those projects seem to knit themselves because it’s what my hands like to do. So I set out to design my ideal sock pattern - the socks that seem to knit themselves.

June Socks are my favorite kind of socks to knit - toe up, with just the right amount of texture to keep them interesting. I had a hard time putting them down because I wanted to knit just one more cable. The every-few-rows-cables are easy enough for an adventurous beginner while making for some fun, mindless knitting for a more experienced sock knitter.

Construction
This pattern is written for toe-up socks, knit one at a time using magic-loop and features an afterthought heel. All directions assume you are knitting toe-up, one at a time, using magic loop, however it is easy to substitute your preferred sock knitting method, toe, or heel. The chart is reversible and at least one of the test knitters worked the sock from the cuff down.
