K-9 Says Affirmative Socks (Doctor Who Inspired)

On the heels of my other Doctor Who inspired sock patterns (Rescue Me, Chin Boy, and Show Me the Stars, Socks For Ten, Spoilers Socks, Come Along Pond Socks, Soufflé Girl Socks, Nice to Meet You Rose Socks, + Hello, I’m Captain Jack Harkness Socks), I am super excited to have collaborated with Julia of Pandia’s Jewels on the 3rd edition of the Doctor Who Companions Sock Club. The third pattern is inspired by the clever metal Classic Who and New Who Companion, K­9.

The main design element of the socks is a textured pattern reminiscent of K­9’s antennae. Just before the toe, the texture reveals K­9’s name. The construction of this sock pattern is extremely unique in that approximately 85­-90% of it is done using the purl stitch which also includes a unusual purled short ­row heel.

So grab your needles, it’s time to knit! Mistress? Affirmative! Happy Knitting!

These socks are knit using the magic loop method (although the purchaser could easily adapt it for two circulars or double points).

This pattern includes toe-up and cuff-down instructions.

The socks are knit using Judy’s Magic Cast-On, ending with Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off, or using the German Twisted Cast-On, ending with Kitchener stitch.

The knitter needs to be comfortable with the following techniques: knit, purl, p2tog, ssp, PFB, and W+T. Instructions for all these techniques are included in the pattern. In addition, a video tutorial for the shadow wrap technique of W+T for short rows has been recorded by the designer.

This pattern includes instructions in both written and chart forms for 56 stitch, 64 stitch, and 72 stitch socks.
