Katama Bay separates the island of Chappaquiddick from the rest of Martha’s Vineyard.

With its slightly cropped length (the hem hits slightly above the widest part of the hips), body-skimming fit, lace yoke, and not-quite-halter styling, this tank makes the most of a relatively small amount of yarn. The lace yoke and garter stitch edgings may be worked in a contrasting yarn, thus utilizing a luxury and/or hand painted yarn to great advantage.

This pattern came about because I gifted 2 skeins of Lorna’s Laces Pearl to an advanced beginner knitter, and the recipient then requested a pattern it could be used for-- something other than a scarf or shawl! I suppose if the length was cropped another few inches, this tank might come in at under 2 skeins for size M, but in the end I compromised by writing the pattern for a more standard length, and adding instructions for using a lovely yarn like Pearl for the yoke and edgings only.

Difficulty: Adventurous beginner to intermediate; skills include reading lace chart, lace knitting, decreasing and increasing, and 3-needle bind off.

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn, 420 (460, 510, 570, 620, 670, 710) yd / 390 (425, 460, 525, 570, 615, 665) m. Shown in Valley Yarns Southwick (52% pima cotton, 48% bamboo viscose, 105 yd 96 m / 1.75 oz 50 g skein), #16 mineral green, 4 (5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7) skeins. More yarn may be required if working optional short row bust shaping.

If using contrasting yarn for lace yoke and garter stitch edgings:
Main: 340 (380, 410, 450, 490, 530, 560) yd / 315 (350, 380, 415, 450, 485, 515) m.
Contrast: 120 (125, 145, 170, 175, 200, 205) yd / 110 (115, 130, 160, 160, 180, 190) m.

Needles: US size 7/4.5 mm: circular needle (cir), 24-47” depending on selected garment size; straight or set of double-pointed (dpn) for straps. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Gauge: 19 sts/24 rnds to 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch. Measure gauge on blocked swatch.

Notes
This pullover is worked in the round from the bottom up to the armholes. Lace pattern is given in chart form only. Options are given for short row bust shaping, for high or low back (low back has same neck drop as front), and for strap width, so read through all directions before starting each section, and highlight or circle directions for chosen options. The yoke with higher back has been designed to cover a crossback or racerback bra in most sizes; the yoke with lower back may still cover bra straps (yoke width measurements may be helpful in determining whether a particular bra will be covered).
