Kathy’s Garden Shawl or Throw

Birds and Butterflies and Flowers, Oh My! Spring has arrived, and it’s time to wander through the garden.

This beautiful modular design was inspired by my friend Kathy’s lovely garden, filled with flowers, birds, butterflies, and the little details that make a garden special. The choice and arrangement of the patterned hexagons are left to the knitter, allowing each finished piece to become a unique garden of your own creation.

The pattern includes a variety of nature-inspired motifs, including Dragonfly, Butterfly, Hummingbird, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Tulip, Honey Bees, Bird House, and more.

Directions are included for creating either a delicate lace-weight shawl or a larger fingering-weight throw. The modular hexagons make this an enjoyable project where you can choose your favorite motifs and arrange them to create a truly personal masterpiece.

The pattern is fully charted and designed for intermediate knitters who enjoy lace and modular construction.

Finished Size: Back length approximately 28 inches
Yarn: 1,025–1,100 yards lace-weight yarn
Needles: US Size 1 (2.25 mm) and US Size 2 (2.75 mm)

Throw Version
Finished Size: Approximately 50 x 56 inches
Yarn: 1,600 yards fingering-weight yarn (approximately 400 yards per 100 g)
Needles: US Size 5 (3.75 mm) and US Size 6 (4.0 mm)
